The Academy
The SPK Academy of Music is one of the world’s leading non-profit schools of Indian Classical Music. Our vision is to advance the knowledge, practice, and preservation of Indian Classical music worldwide through the traditions of the sitar. The Academy offers musical tutelage under one of the world’s finest living sitar masters, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan or Ustad Shahid Parvez (Ustadji). Our teaching methods are steeped in the ancient traditions of India, yet also innovatively adapted for the modern world through the use of technology.
At the heart of our teaching tradition is the relationship between the Ustad (guru/teacher) and the shishya (student). Through individual lessons and group workshops, Ustadji nurtures this relationship with every student at the Academy, from the beginner to the most advanced. As a registered non-profit organization, the Academy also strives to provide access to Ustadji’s tutelage to a wide range of deserving students from low-income backgrounds worldwide.
